Italian Senator Fleres and Vice President Catalano of Catania Province to Visit Taiwan

At the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Republic of China (Taiwan), a six-member Italian trade delegation from Sicily led by Senator Salvo Fleres and Mr. Sebastiano Catalano, Vice President of Catania Province, will visit Taiwan on August 18 to 22 , 2010.

During their stay, the delegation will call at Legislative Yuan, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Bureau of Foreign Trade, as well as the Italian Economic, Trade and Cultural Promotion Office in Taiwan. Dr. Lyushun Shen, Deputy Minister of the Foreign Ministry, will host a welcome luncheon for the delegation. During the trip, the sister-relationship between Kaohsiung City and the Province of Catania will be launched through a MOU to be linked by the two sides as well.

This trip marks the second visit of Senator Salvo Fleres to Taiwan and the first for the Vice President Catalano. The delegates have spared no effort to support Taiwan’s broader participation in international organizations. During their stay, the delegates hope to gain a deeper understanding of the latest developments in Taiwan’s political scene, economy and relations with Mainland China, in order to further enhance the trade and cultural exchanges between Taiwan and Italy.
