Deputy Speaker of Lithuanian Parliament to visit Taiwan

At the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Hon. Virginija Baltraitiene, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament (Seimas) of the Republic of Lithuania, and two Members of the Lithuanian Parliament, Hon. Gediminas Navaitis and Hon. Mantas Adomena, will visit Taiwan from September 5 to 9, 2010.

This trip marks their first visit to Taiwan, the delegates aim at gaining a better understanding of Taiwan’s political, economic, cultural and technological developments, as well as the current cross-strait situation. During their stay, President of the Legislative Yuan, Wang Jin-pyng and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Lyushun Shen, will host welcoming luncheons in their honor. The delegates will call at the Mainland Affairs Council, the Bureau of Foreign Trade, the Ministry of Education and the Government Information Office. Visits to the National Palace Museum, Taipei 101, Lung-shan Temple, National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, the Neihu Technology Park and Taroko National Park in Hualien are also scheduled. 

Lithuania, a parliamentary democracy with a directly elected president, is located along the southeastern shore of the Baltic Sea. Lithuania covers an area of 65,200 square kilometers and has a population of 3.3 million. It joined NATO and the EU in 2004, and became a Member of the Schengen area in 2007.(E)
