At the invitation of the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Dr. Alhaji Mamadou Tangara, the Gambian Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, will lead a three-member delegation to the Republic of China (Taiwan) from January 8 to January 12, 2011.
Dr. Alhaji Mamadou Tangara will call on President Ma Ying-jeou, Minister of Foreign Affairs Timothy Chin–Tien Yang and Minister of National Defense Hua-Chu Kao. He will also visit the International Cooperation and Development Fund, the Government Information Office, Sanyi Wood Sculpture Museum, Miaoli District Agricultural Research and Extension Station, Guang Hua Digital Plaza, Shilin Night Market, Taipei 101, the 2010 Taipei International Flora Expo, the National Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall and the National Palace Museum. He will also meet with Gambian students pursuing their education at the National Taipei University of Technology.

This is Dr. Alhaji Mamadou Tangara’s first visit to Taiwan. Being here will provide him and the delegation with an opportunity to understand the latest social, cultural and economic developments in Taiwan, and will help further enhance the cooperative and cordial relations that exist between Republic of China (Taiwan) and The Gambia.

Since resuming diplomatic ties in 1995, bilateral relations have gone from strength to strength. Both countries have successfully undertaken various cooperation projects in the areas of infrastructure, healthcare, education and agriculture. The Gambia has been a strong proponent of Taiwan’s bid for meaningful participation in the United Nations, the World Health Assembly, the International Civil Aviation Organization, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and other international organizations.
