Vice Chairman of the European Parliament-Taiwan Friendship Group Leads a Delegation to Taiwan

At the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Mr. Wolfgang Kreissl-Dorfler, Vice Chairman of the European Parliament-Taiwan Friendship Group, will lead a six-member delegation to Taiwan from February 20 to 25, 2011. The delegation is comprised of five members of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament, including Mr. Wolfgang Kreissl-Dorfler, Mr. Jo Leinen, Mr. David Martin, Ms. Constanze Angela Krehl, Ms. Karin Kadenbach and the assistant to Mr. Kreissl-Dorfler, Ms. Nadja Pholmann.

The delegation will call on President Ma Ying-jeou, Legislative Yuan President Wang Jin-pyng, Minister of the Mainland Affairs Council Lai Shin-yuan, Minister of the Environmental Protection Administration Dr. Shen Shu-hung, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Lyushun Shen and Director General of the Bureau of Foreign Trade Cho Shih-chao. They also will meet with representatives from the Kuomintang, Democratic Progressive Party, and European Economic and Trade Office, and will tour Taipei 101, the National Palace Museum and Kaohsiung Port. 

MEP Kreissl-Dorfler, who is serving his fourth term in the European Parliament, is a member of the European Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee. MEP Leinen is currently Chair of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety. Except for MEP Wolfgang Kreissl-Dorfler and MEP David Martin, this will be the first time for the members of the delegation to visit Taiwan. This trip aims to give the delegation a better understanding of Taiwan’s most recent political and economic developments. (E)
