Member of the European Parliament Eduard Kukan, Former Foreign Minister of the Slovak Republic, to Visit Taiwan

At the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Member of the European Parliament Eduard Kukan, former Foreign Minister of the Slovak Republic, is scheduled to visit Taiwan from April 26 to 30, 2011. Mr. Kukan will be accompanied by Mr. Milan Tancar, former Vice Foreign Minister of the Slovak Republic, and Mr. Jan Bratko, former Representative of the Slovak Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei.

During their visit, the delegation members will have an audience with Mr. Vincent C. Siew, Vice President of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and call on Mr. Yung-chuan Tseng, Vice President of the Legislative Yuan; Dr. Shin-yuan Lai, Minister of the Mainland Affairs Council; and Mr. Timothy C.T. Yang, Minister of Foreign Affairs, who will host a banquet in the delegation’s honor. The delegates will also call at the Council for Economic Planning and Development, Civil Aeronautics Administration, Taiwan External Trade Development Council, AU Optronics Corp. and Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport Corporation, Ltd. In addition, they will tour the National Palace Museum, Taipei 101, Taroko National Park and the Lungshan Temple in Taipei.

Parliamentarian Kukan is a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament and is currently Chair of the Delegation for Relations with Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro and Kosovo. This trip aims to enhance the delegates’ understanding of the most recent developments in Taiwan’s political and economic spheres as well as current cross-straits relations. (E)
