No. 130 2011/04/27
At the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan), MP David Stanton is leading a four-member parliamentary delegation from the Republic of Ireland to Taiwan from April 25 to 29, 2011.
The delegation members will call on Legislative Yuan Vice President Yung-chuan Tseng, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Lyushun Shen, who will host a luncheon in their honour, and Deputy Minister of Education Tsai-Shung Wu, among other officials.
During their stay, the parliamentarians will also visit the Tourism Bureau, Department of Rapid Transit Systems of the Taipei City Government, Taroko National Park, Taipei 101, National Palace Museum, National Chiang Kai-shek Cultural Center and other economic and cultural establishments.
This is the first parliamentary delegation to visit since Ireland held its general election in February this year. In addition, this marks the first trip to Taiwan for all of the delegates. The visit aims to provide the delegates a better understanding of Taiwan’s recent developments and policies, and Taiwan’s experiences in constructing mass transit systems. In the meantime, the delegation hopes to help attract tourists and students to Ireland, thereby further bolstering the bilateral exchanges between Ireland and Taiwan. (E)
