Polish senators visit Taiwan

At the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Dr. Leon Kieres, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, and Dr. Janusz Racho?, Vice Chairman of the European Union Affairs Committee of the Senate of the Republic of Poland, are scheduled to visit Taiwan from May 17 to May 20, 2011.

Dr. Kieres and Dr. Racho? will call on Vice President of the Legislative Yuan, Tseng Yung-chuan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Lyushun Shen, Vice Minister of Economic Affairs, Hwang Jung-chiou, and other government officials. Vice President Tseng Yung-chuan and Deputy Minster Dr. Lyushun Shen will host separate luncheons in their honor. They will also call at Academia Sinica, the National Science Council, the Government Information Office, the Warsaw Trade Office, Tamkang University and Hsinchu Science Park. In addition, they will visit the National Palace Museum, Taipei 101 and Shilin night market, and attend a performance of the traditional opera Legend of the White Snake at TaipeiEYE. Dr. Kieres will also give a lecture on the Polish political system at the Graduate Institute of European Studies at Tamkang University and take part in a roundtable discussion with participating students.

This visit aims to enhance parliamentary exchanges between Taiwan and Poland, as well as to give the senators a better understanding of recent developments in Taiwan in terms of politics and the economy, science and technology education, and cross-strait relations. (E)
