Delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria visits Taiwan

At the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Mr. Dimitar I. Chukarsky, Member of the Bulgarian National Assembly and Chairperson of the Bulgarian-Taiwanese Parliamentary Group for Economic and Cultural Cooperation, leads a 3-member parliamentary delegation to Taiwan on June 19 to 25, 2011. Mr. Valentin A. Nikolov and Mr. Ventsislav V. Barbanov are the other two members of the delegation.

Chairperson Chukarsky and the delegates will call on Legislative Yuan Vice President Tseng Yung-chuan and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Lyushun-shen. To welcome the delegation, Vice President Tseng and Deputy Minister Dr. Shen will host respectively a luncheon in their honor. The delegation will also visit several government agencies, including the Council for Economic Planning and Development, Government Information Office, Mainland Affairs Council, Bureau of National Health Insurance. 

In addition, the delegation will call at the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund, Chinese International Economic Cooperation Association, Taiwan External Trade Development Council, European Economic and Trade Office, National Cheng-kung University, Southern Taiwan Science Park Administration and Taiwan Orchid Plantation. The members will tour the National Palace Museum, National Chiang Kai-shek Cultural Center, Taipei 101, Yingo Ceramic Museum, Taiwan Handicraft Promotion Center and Hwa-shi Night Market. On June 22, 2011, the delegation is scheduled to attend the opening ceremony of the 21st Taipei International Food Show, where Kartazyna Estate, a Bulgarian company will host a national pavilion.

This trip aims to give the delegation a better understanding of the relations between Taiwan and the EU’s member countries and Taiwan’s most recent economic and technological developments. The members will learn more about Taiwan’s National Health Insurance system and its achievements in preventing diseases domestically.

The Bulgarian-Taiwanese Group for Economic and Cultural Cooperation was founded in Sophia on March 24, 2011. The members of the delegation are also members of the Group. Except for Chairperson Chukarsky, the trip marks the first time to visit Taiwan for the other two members of the delegation. (E)
