An eight-member delegation from the European Parliament to visit Taiwan

At the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan), an eight-member delegation from the European Parliament will visit Taiwan on July 19 to 22, 2011. 

The delegation includes five members of the European Parliament: Mr. Agustin Diaz de Mera Consuegra (delegation head), Ms. Rosa Estaras Ferragut, Ms. Esther Herranz Garcia, Mr. Carlos Jose Iturgaiz Angulo and Ms. Veronica Lope Fontagne.

The delegation will call on President Ma Ying-jeou, Premier Wu Den-yih, Legislative Yuan President Wang Jin-pyng, Minister of the Mainland Affairs Council Lai Shin-yuan, Minister of Justice Tseng Yung-fu, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Lyushun Shen, Vice Minister of Economic Affairs Francis Kuo-Hsin Liang. The delegation members will also meet with representatives from the European Economic and Trade Office and the European Chamber of Commerce Taipei. Excursions to the National Palace Museum, Taipei 101 and certain historic sites in Tainan have been arranged for the delegation.

Except for MEP Agustin Diaz de Mera Consuegra, this will be the first time for the delegation members to visit Taiwan. This trip aims to give the delegation a better understanding of Taiwan’s most recent political and economic developments. (E)
