Irish Parliamentary Delegation to Visit Taiwan

At the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Mr. Terence Flanagan, Member of Parliament of the Republic of Ireland, will lead a 4-member delegation to Taiwan on August 13 - 19, 2011. 

The delegation will attend a luncheon hosted by Timothy C.T. Yang, Minister of Foreign Affairs and a dinner hosted by Mr. Po-ya Chou, Deputy Speaker of Taipei City Council. They will also call on Mr. Sheng-ford Chang, Deputy Minister of Finance; Mr. Wun-long Hseu, Deputy Director-General for Construction and Planning Agency; Mr. Wen-yan Chiau, Deputy Minister of the Environmental Protection Administration; Ms. Min-huei Huang, Mayor of Chia-yi City; Mr. Frederic Laplanche, Director of the European Economic and Trade Office and Mr. Chris James, Chairman for European Chamber of Commerce Taipei. In addition, the delegation will call at the Government Information Office and visit the National Palace Museum, Kenting National Park and other economic and cultural establishments. 

This is the second visit of Mr. Terence Flanagan to Taiwan. He currently sits on the Committee on Environment, Transport and Culture and the Committee on Finance in the Irish parliament. This trip aims to give the members a better understanding of Taiwan’s recent developments and government policies. The delegation hopes to enhance tourism and investments between the two countries, thereby bolstering Taiwan-Ireland bilateral exchanges.(E)
