At the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan), a seven-member delegation from the European Parliament led by MEP Gabriele Albertini, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, will visit Taiwan from August 31 to September 4, 2011. The other delegation members are MEP Ioannis Kasoulides, MEP Bastiaan Belder, MEP Joachim Zeller, Mr. Georg Jarzembowski, Mr. Romain Leon Marie Strasser and Mr. Luca Toschi.

The delegation will call on ROC President Ma Ying-jeou, Legislative Yuan President Wang Jin-pyng, National Security Council Secretary General Hu Wei-jen, Minister of the Mainland Affairs Council Lai Shin-yuan, Minister of Defense Kao Hua-chu, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Lyushun Shen, Vice Minister of Economic Affairs Francis Kuo-hsin Liang, Head of the European Trade and Economic Office Frederic Laplanche, and Chairman of the Board of the Institute for National Policy Research Tien Hung-mao. The delegation will also visit the National Palace Museum, Taipei 101 and Kenting National Park.

This trip aims to give the delegation a better understanding of Taiwan’s most recent political and economic developments.(E)
