At the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan), a delegation from the Taiwan-Portugal Parliamentary Friendship Association of Portugal will visit Taiwan from October 8 to October 12, 2011, for the ROC Centennial Celebrations. The delegation consists of five members of Portugal’s Congress: Mota Andrade, MP and Vice President of the Association; Duarte Pacheco, MP; Jose Ribeiro e Castro, MP; Antonio Ramos Preto, MP; and Ulisses Pereira, MP.

The delegation will call on Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Lyushun Shen, Minister of the Environmental Protection Administration Stephen Shu-hung Shen, Vice Minister of Mainland Affairs Kao Chang, and Legislator Liao Wan-Ju. They will also call at the Government Information Office, the Ministry of Education and visit the Taipei World Design Expo 2011. Excursions to the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, the National Palace Museum, Taipei 101, the Taiwan Handicraft Promotion Center, Shilin Night Market and other locations have also been arranged.

While Mota Andrade and Antonio Ramos Preto have been to Taiwan before, in 2004, this will be the first time the other delegates have visited. This trip aims to give the delegation a better understanding of Taiwan’s most recent political and economic developments, which will in turn help promote parliamentary cooperation and strengthen relations between Taiwan and Portugal.(E)
