At the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Fr. Giuseppe Bellucci, Spokesperson of the Superior General of the Society of Jesus, and Director of the Communication and Public Relations Office of the Society of Jesus, will visit Taiwan from October 1 to October 5, 2011.

Fr. Bellucci will attend the opening ceremony of the National Palace Museum exhibition, Emperor Kangxi and the Sun King Louis XIV: Sino – Franco Encounters in Arts and Culture. Mr. James K.C. Lee, Director General of MOFA’s Department of European Affairs, will host a lunch in his honor. Fr. Bellucci will also call on Mrs. Tseng Shu-hsien, Director General of the National Central Library, and visit the Holy Family Church, Taipei 101 and Cardinal Tien Hospital. He will also travel to Kaohsiung to call on his Eminence Paul Card. Shan, S.J., Honorary President of the Chinese Regional Bishop’s Conference, and visit the Pastoral Service Center of the Mount Beatitude Social Welfare Complex.

Fr. Bellucci has been to Taiwan many times, his last visit being in 2005. By being here again, he hopes to gain a better understanding of the culture in Taiwan, the Catholic Church’s development here and the latest situation in cross-strait relations. His trip is also meant to enhance exchanges between the Catholic Church in Taiwan and the Society of Jesus in Rome. (E)
