No. 386November 30, 2011At the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Republic of China (Taiwan), His Eminence Zenon Cardinal Grocholewski, Prefect of the Congregation for Catholic Education, will visit Taiwan from November 30 to December 4, 2011.Cardinal Grocholewski will have an audience with President Ma Ying-jeou and call on Dr. Wu Ching-ji, Minister of Education, to sign the Agreement Between the Ministry of Education of the Republic of China and the Congregation for Catholic Education of the Holy See on Collaboration in the Field of Higher Education and on the Recognition of Studies, Qualifications, Diplomas and Degrees. He will also call on Dr. Jiang Yi-huah, Minister of the Interior, and attend a dinner hosted in his honor by Dr. Lyu-shun Shen, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs. His Eminence will also attend the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the re-establishment of Fu-Jen Catholic University in Taiwan, as well as a ground-breaking ceremony for a hospital the university’s College of Medicine is to build. He will also deliver a speech at Providence University in Taichung and call on old friends from the Catholic Church.This is Cardinal Grocholewski’s second visit to Taiwan, his first being in 2003. The trip will enable him to further enhance intellectual and cultural exchanges with Taiwan, and gain a better understanding of Catholic education and the Church’s development here, as well as cross-strait relations.
