The Most Reverend Archbishop Savio Tai-Fai Hon, Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, visits the Republic of China (Taiwan)

At the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Republic of China (Taiwan), the Most Reverend Archbishop Savio Tai-Fai Hon, Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, will visit Taiwan from November 27 to December 3, 2011.

Archbishop Hon will have an audience with President Ma Ying-jeou, call on Dr. Wu Ching-ji, Minister of Education, and witness the signing of the Agreement Between the Ministry of Education of the Republic of China and the Congregation for Catholic Education of the Holy See on Collaboration in the Field of Higher Education and on the Recognition of Studies, Qualifications, Diplomas and Degrees. He will also call on Dr. Jiang Yi-huah, Minister of the Interior, and attend a dinner hosted by Dr. Lyushun Shen, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs. 

Archbishop Hon will attend the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the re-establishment of Fu-Jen Catholic University in Taiwan, as well as a ground-breaking ceremony for a hospital the university’s College of Medicine is to build. He will also deliver a speech at Providence University in Taichung.

Having been to Taiwan frequently in the past, most recently in February 2011, Archbishop Hon hopes to use this trip to further enhance exchanges between the Holy See and Taiwan, visit Catholic Church leaders and gain a better understanding of Catholic education and the Church’s development here, as well as cross-strait relations.(E)
