Delegation from Czech Senate visits Taiwan

At the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan), a five-member delegation from the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic visits Taiwan from December 11 to December 15, 2011. The delegation is composed of Senator Jozef Regec, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security, Senator Ji?i Pospi?il, Senator Toma? Kladivko, Senator Pavel Trpak, and Mr. Petr Fleischmann, Advisor of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security. 

The delegation will call on Co-Convener of the Foreign and National Defense Committee of the Legislative Yuan, Shuai Hua-ming; Deputy Secretary General of the National Security Council, Liu Chih-kung; Deputy Minister of National Defense, General Chaou Shih-chang; Deputy Minister of the Mainland Affairs Council, Kao Charng; and Deputy Minister of the Sports Affairs Council, Chen Shyh-kwei. The delegation will also visit the Fire Safety Museum, the National Fire Agency’s Central Emergency Operation Center, the National Palace Museum, Taipei 101 and Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, as well as other sites of cultural and economic interest. Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thomas T.S. Cheng, will host a luncheon in their honor.

Except for Mr. Ji?i Pospi?il, this is the first time the delegation members have visited Taiwan. Being here will give them a better understanding of political, economic and cultural developments in Taiwan, as well as cross-strait relations. (E)
