The Arrangement on Cooperation between the Taiwan Customs Service and the Finnish Customs Service to Combat Customs Fraud was concluded in Finland’s capital city of Helsinki on January 19.
The arrangement, reached through joint efforts, was signed by Director General Liao Chao-hsiang of the ROC Ministry of Finance Customs Administration and Director General Antti Hartikainen of the Finnish Customs. Attending the ceremony were officials from the Taipei Representative Office in Finland as well as the Finnish Ministry of Finance.
Coming shortly after the signing of the Administrative Cooperation Arrangement between the European Anti-Fraud Office and the Taiwan Customs Administration on November 25, 2016, the pact represents the further enhancement of international customs cooperation by Taiwan. It underscores Taiwan’s determination to work with Finland to combat illicit activities and protect law-abiding citizens while creating a win-win situation for both parties through the deepening of bilateral cooperation.
Taiwan and Finland have enjoyed steadily growing relations in recent years. The ROC Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Taiwan External Trade Development Council organize annual trade missions to Finland, which is Taiwan’s 12th-largest trading partner in the European Union. Bilateral trade totaled US$650 million in 2015, with Taiwan enjoying a trade surplus of US$140 million.
