Visitor Visa for Japanese Retirees (over age 55)
Requirements Description
Application form Please complete an online application form(https://visawebapp.boca.gov.tw/). Print out the barcoded form and sign it.
Two color passport-size (45 mm in height and 35 mm in width) photos taken within the last six months Photos must have a white background.
Passport (original and photocopy) Passports must be valid for at least six months and have blank pages.
Proof of no criminal record issued by the Japanese police authority (original and photocopy)  
Proof of financial capacity (original and photocopy) Proof of financial capacity of at least US$50,000 and documentation showing employee, mutual aid, or national pension payments.
Proof of insurance (original and photocopy) Individuals with overseas travel insurance that includes medical and accident coverage and is valid for at least two years may apply for a one-year, multiple-entry visitor visa that permits nonextendable stays of 180 days for each visit. Individuals with insurance valid for less than two years but more than six months may apply for a six-month, multiple-entry visitor visa that permits nonextendable stays of 180 days for each visit.
Other documents as requested Determined by the R.O.C. (Taiwan) overseas mission on a case-by-case basis.

 

Procedures:

  1. Applicants should submit the required documents and fee to an overseas mission of the Republic of China (Taiwan).
  2. If necessary, the overseas mission may request an interview.

Notices:

  1. The issuance of visas is a sovereign power of the state. The government of the R.O.C. (Taiwan) has the right to refuse to grant a visa without explanation. The visa application fee is nonrefundable, even if a visa is not granted.
  2. For visa application fees, please refer to "Standard Fees for Republic of China (Taiwan) Visas in Foreign Passports(pdf file)."
  3. For application documents in languages other than Chinese or English, the R.O.C. (Taiwan) overseas mission may request Chinese or English translations to be authenticated by the mission.
  4. There is no age requirement for an accompanying spouse. Spouses that meet requirements 4 and 6 above are eligible for the same visa treatment.
