Visitor Visa for Studying Religious Doctrine
Requirements Description
Application form Please complete an online application form(https://visawebapp.boca.gov.tw/). Print out the barcoded form and sign it.
Two color passport-size (45 mm in height and 35 mm in width) photos taken within the last six months Photos must have a white background.
Passport (original and photocopy) Passports must be valid for at least six months and have blank pages. Please photocopy the passport information page containing your photo as well as your last visa for Taiwan.
Photocopy of an approval letter from the competent authority For foreign nationals to pursue religious studies in Taiwan, the religious group or its affiliated religious studies institute shall apply for approval from the Ministry of the Interior or special municipality or county/city government that has licensed the group for establishment or registration.
Other documents as determined on a case-by-case basis  

Procedures:

  1. Applicants should submit the required documents to the overseas mission of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in their country of citizenship or country of permanent residence or the mission with consular jurisdiction over the above.
  2. If necessary, the overseas mission may request an interview.

Notices:

  1. The issuance of visas is a sovereign power of the state. The government of the R.O.C. (Taiwan) has the right to refuse to grant a visa without explanation. The visa application fee is nonrefundable, even if a visa is not granted.
  2. Original documents will be returned after verification. Applicants who fail to provide additional requested documents within two weeks will be rejected and their application fees will not be returned.
  3. For visa application fees, please refer to "Standard Fees for Republic of China (Taiwan) Visas in Foreign Passports(pdf file)."
  4. Individuals who enter the R.O.C. (Taiwan) visa-free, on a landing visa, or visitor visa that is not for religious studies may not request an extension of stay or transfer to a resident visa to pursue religious studies.
  5. Individuals in the R.O.C. (Taiwan) who wish to change their purpose of stay/residence to studying religious doctrine must leave Taiwan and submit a visa application to an overseas R.O.C. (Taiwan) mission.
