Guidelines for visa applications to the Republic of China (Taiwan) for Canadian citizens joining the Youth Mobility Program

1.  Qualification requirements
     Applicants qualify if they:

a. hold Canadian citizenship;
b. have not previously obtained an R.O.C. (Taiwan) visa for the Youth Mobility Program;
c. are between the ages of 18 and 35 on the date of application;
d. have arranged an internship, traineeship or job in Taiwan in advance; have registered at an institution of tertiary education and arranged either a traineeship or job in Taiwan in advance; or intend to travel in Taiwan and join the Youth Mobility Program by working in Taiwan (Work should be the secondary, rather than primary, reason for coming to Taiwan; the total duration of stay in Taiwan shall be no more than one year from the date of entry);
e. do not list dependents on their application; and
f. have prepared required documentation and funds as detailed below, and properly submitted the documentation.

2. Required documentation and funds

a. R.O.C. (Taiwan) visa application form for the Youth Mobility Program completed and signed by the applicant
b. Curriculum vitae and general plan for stay in Taiwan
c. Passport with at least one year of remaining validity as of the date of application
d. Two 2-inch color passport photos taken within the six months prior to the date of application
e. Proof of health insurance for the entire duration of stay in Taiwan
f. Health check certificate
g. Proof of possession of ticket to leave Taiwan or sufficient funds to purchase such ticket
h. Proof of possession of C$2,500 or its equivalent (e.g., traveler’s checks or bank deposits)
i. Visa fee of US$100

3. Application procedures

a. Applications can be made either in person or through a properly authorized third party.
b. Applications must be submitted to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Ottawa, Toronto or Vancouver; to the Bureau of Consular Affairs (Taipei); or to any of the four regional offices in Taiwan (Taichung, Chiayi, Kaohsiung, Hualien) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
c. Applicants should submit additional documentation and undergo an interview if so requested.

4. Type of visa issued

a. Type: Visitor visa (marked “WH” for Youth Mobility Program purposes)
b. Validity: One year from the date of issue; multiple entries allowed
c. Duration of stay: 180 days. Within 15 days prior to expiry, the holder may apply for an extension at the National Immigration Agency service center in the city or county of residence in Taiwan. No further extensions or changes to visa type will be permitted thereafter.
