Guidelines for Visa Applications to the Republic of China (Taiwan) for Austrian Citizens Joining the Working Holiday Scheme

  1. Qualifications:Applicants are qualified if they meet the following requirements:
    1. Being an Austrian citizen residing in Austria at the time of application;
    2. Never being a Working Holiday maker in Taiwan;
    3. Being between the ages of 18 and 30 inclusive on the date of application;
    4. Not being accompanied by spouse or dependants, unless they are also in possession of working holiday visas.
  2. Required documents:
    1. An online completed, printed out and signed ROC (Taiwan) visa application form ( available at https://visawebapp.boca.gov.tw) for the Working Holiday Scheme;
    2. An Austrian passport valid for more than 1 year;
    3. Two colour passport-size photos taken within 6 months;
    4. Valid medical and comprehensive hospitalization insurance throughout her/his stay in Taiwan;
    5. Proof of financial support at least €4000, or rather €2500 plus a valid return or onward flight ticket;
    6. Visa fee: The equivalent of US$100 in the currency designated by the ROC(Taiwan) overseas mission for a multiple entry visitor visa, according to the specified Standard Fees for ROC(Taiwan) Visas in Foreign Passports. (Payment is not refundable.)
  3. Application procedures:
    1. Applications may be made in person, or by an authorized third party;
    2. Applications must be submitted to the Taipei Representative Office in Austria.
    3. Applicants may be requested to provide additional documents or to be interviewed as necessary.
  4. Type of visa issued:
    1. Type: Visitor Visa;
    2. Validity:  One year from the date of issue, good for multiple entries;
    3. Duration of stay: 180 days, extendable for another 180 days.
    • An extension of up to 180 days can be applied for, 15 days prior to the expiry of stay, at the National Immigration Agency service center in the city or county of residence in Taiwan.
    • The total duration of stay can not exceed one year from the date of entry into Taiwan.
    • No further extensions or changes of visa type will be permitted thereafter.
  5. Notice:
    1. The annual visa quota in the Scheme is seventy-five (75).
    2. Visa holders in the Scheme are permitted to engage in temporary employment during their visit and can work for one or more employers during their visit;
    3. Visa holders in the Scheme are permitted to engage in any study or educational courses for a total period of up to six (6) months during their visit.
