Foreign nationals eligible for visa-exempt entry |
- Nationals of the following countries are eligible for the visa-exemption program, with a duration of stay of up to 90 days: Albania, Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Eswatini*, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Haiti, Holy See, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan*, Kosovo, Republic of Korea, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Marshall Island*, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, North Macedonia*(effective untill March 31, 2025), Norway, Palau, Paraguay, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tuvalu*, United Kingdom, and United States of America*.
- Nationals of the following countries are eligible for the visa-exemption program, with a duration of stay of up to 30 days: Belize*, Malaysia, Nauru, Saint Kitts and Nevis*, Saint Lucia*, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Singapore.
- Nationals of Nicaragua, except those holding diplomatic or official/service passports, are eligible for the visa-exemption program, with a duration of stay of up to 90 days.
- Nationals of Honduras*, except those holding diplomatic or official/service passports, are eligible for the visa-exemption program, with a duration of stay of up to 90 days.
- Nationals of Dominican Republic, except those holding diplomatic or official/service passports, are eligible for the visa-exemption program, with a duration of stay of up to 30 days.
- Nationals of the Kingdom of Thailand (effective untill July 31, 2025), except those holding diplomatic or official/service passports, are eligible for the visa-exemption program, with a duration of stay of up to 14 days.
- Nationals of Brunei (effective untill July 31, 2025), except those holding diplomatic or official/ service passports, are eligible for the visa-exemption program, with a duration of stay of up to 14 days. In addition, those holding a Brunei Certificate of Identity are eligible for the visa-exemption program, with a duration of stay of up to 14 days.
- Nationals of the Philippines (effective untill July 31, 2025), except those holding diplomatic or official/service passports, are eligible for the visa-exemption program, with a duration of stay of up to 14 days.

Requirements |
- A passport with remaining validity of at least six months as of the date of entry
- Visa-exempt entry only applies to foreign visitors holding formal passports (i.e., ordinary, official/service and diplomatic passports). Those holding emergency, temporary, or other informal passports or travel documents are ineligible, with the exception of those holding a Brunei Certificate of Identity.
- Holders of Belize, Eswatini, Nauru, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Tuvalu passports with place of birth recorded on the passport data page as Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Nigeria, Pakistan, the People's Republic of China, Syria, and Yemen are ineligible for the visa exemption. Holders of Honduran passports with place of birth recorded on the passport data page as the People's Republic of China are also ineligible for the visa exemption.
- A national of the Republic of the Marshall Islands shall mean any person who holds the nationality of the Republic of the Marshall Islands and is confined to the following categories:(1) a person who acquired the citizenship of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands at birth before the effective date of the Constitution of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and has become and remains a citizen of the Republic of the Marshall Islands; or (2) a person who acquired the citizenship of the Republic of the Marshall Islands at birth, on or after the effective date of the Constitution of the Republic of the Marshall Islands.
- USA nationals who possess a passport, including an emergency passports, valid for the intended period of stay are eligible for visa-exempt entry.
- Japan nationals who possess a passport valid for the intended period of stay are eligible for visa-exempt entry.
- Holders of emergency or temporary passport, except those from the United States of America, should apply for a visa at an ROC overseas mission, or a landing visa after arriving in the ROC.
- A confirmed return air/sea ticket or air/sea ticket and a visa for the next destination, and a confirmed seat reservation for departure flight.
- Not determined by immigration officers at ports of entry in the ROC to be otherwise ineligible.
- Holders of Brunei, Philippines and Thailand passports must have proof of accommodation (hotel) booking, host/sponsor's contact information and sufficient travel funds.
- Brunei, Philippines and Thailand vessel/aircraft crew members or service personnel intending to board to report for duty are ineligible for the visa-exempt entry.

Duration of stay |
- The duration of stay starts from the day after arrival and is not extendable. Foreign visitors must depart by the end of the said duration. Please click here for information on penalties for overstay.
- Visa-exempt entry cannot be converted to visa-based stay, unless any of the following applies:
- In the event of situations that prevent them from leaving the ROC, such as severe acute illness, natural disaster, or other force majeure.
- White-collar professionals who have obtained (i) a work permit granted for a period under 6 months within their permitted duration of stay, or (ii) a work permit for fulfilling contract purpose issued before or within 30 days of their entry (Brunei, North Macedonia, Philippines and Thailand are not included) may apply for a work visa.
*All applications shall be submitted within 8 working days before their permitted duration of stay expires.
*In accordance with National Immigration Agency (NIA) regulations, those foreigners who come to Taiwan to engage in contracting work for more than 6 months, enter Taiwan under a visa-exemption program, and plan to apply for an alien residence certificate from the Immigration Agency, Ministry of the Interior, are required to simultaneously submit applications for visitor and resident visas to this Bureau or the Central, Southern, Eastern, and Yunjianan Offices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
*Those foreigners who obtain work permits (exclude fulfilling contract purpose) granted for a period over 6 months shall apply for residency directly to the National Immigration Agency in accordance with the Act for the Recruitment and Employment of Foreign Professionals.
- Canadian and UK passport holders are eligible for the visa-exemption program with a duration of stay of 90 days which is extendable up to 180 days, please refer to the Notice for British & Canadian Passport Holders Who Enter Taiwan Visa-Free and Apply for an Extension of Stay.
- The visa-exemption trial program for nationals of Russia expired (effective until July 31, 2022). (Extension of the trial program is under evaluation.)
