Visitor Visa for Religious Work
REQUIREMENTS DESCRIPTION
Application form Please complete an online application form. Print out the barcoded form and sign it.
Two color passport-size (45 mm in height and 35 mm in width) photos taken within the last six months Photos must have a white background.
Passport (original and photocopy) Passports must be valid for at least six months and have blank pages. Please photocopy the passport information page containing your photo as well as your last visa for Taiwan.
Religious worker qualifications (original and photocopy)
  1. Foreign religious workers must be qualified professionals such as a pastor or missionary (missionaries must have knowledge of the Bible and (a) possess a degree or certificate from a seminary or Bible college or (b) have been ordained by a legally registered church), Catholic priest or nun, Buddhist monk or nun, or imam. If a denomination does not traditionally give its workers certificates of qualification, then the managing body for that religion in the district where the foreign religious worker serves or the organization to which they are affiliated may submit a certificate.
  2. The certificate shall bear the foreign religious worker's name, nationality, denomination, date of appointment, and whether they are a religious worker at the time of application (please provide precise dates).
  3. Buddhist monks and nuns shall attach their certificate of ordination (original and photocopy).
  4. Tibetan Buddhist monks shall present a certificate signed by their monastic lineage holder that bears the foreign monk’s name, nationality, denomination, date of induction, and whether they are a monk at the time of application (please provide precise dates).

Religious worker credentials (original and photocopy)

* Note: Depending on the religious denomination, the certificate of qualification in requirement 4 above may also fulfill this requirement.

Credentials shall be issued by the religious group to which the foreign religious worker is affiliated, signed by the organization’s responsible person, and shall include the following:

  1. Foreign religious worker’s name, nationality, date of birth, and denomination
  2. Detailed, uninterrupted record of religious work during at least the last two years (please provide precise dates)
License of establishment or registration of the host religious group (photocopy) Religious group refers to a temple, church, or group legally established or registered in the Republic of China (Taiwan).
Letter of invitation (original and photocopy)

The letter of invitation shall be issued by the host religious group, signed by the responsible person, stamped with the group’s seal, and include the following:

  1. Proof that the group is a legally registered, nonprofit entity currently in operation
  2. Reason for inviting the foreign religious worker
  3. Invited foreign religious worker’s name, nationality, date of birth, denomination, intended period of stay in Taiwan, and details and schedule of planned religious activities in Taiwan
  4. List of other foreign religious workers invited by the group who are currently in Taiwan and the types of visas that they hold
  5. Affidavit attesting that the application is free of any deception
Other documents as determined on a case-by-case basis  

 

Application Procedure

  1. Applicants should submit the required documents and fee to an overseas mission of the R.O.C. (Taiwan).
  2. For cases that need to be guaranteed, the religious group in Taiwan shall present in person, using the applicant's visa application number provided by the overseas mission, the above supporting documents (apart from the original passport and application form, photocopies of all documents) as well as an original Guarantee Review Notification Form for Visa Applications to the R.O.C. and a Letter of Guarantee for Visa Applications to the R.O.C. to counters 31-33 of the Bureau of Consular Affairs (counters will not accept courier or mail deliveries). Documents may also be sent by courier or mail to the Bureau of Consular Affairs Visa Section. The religious group in Taiwan and the overseas mission will separately be informed of the result of the review.
  3. For procedures for nationals of designated countries applying for visitor visas to Taiwan, please refer to the relevant requirements.

 

Notice

  1. The issuance of visas is a sovereign power of the state. The government of the R.O.C. (Taiwan) has the right to refuse to grant a visa without explanation. The visa application fee is nonrefundable, even if a visa is not granted.

  2. Original documents will be returned after verification. Applicants who fail to provide additional requested documents within two weeks will be rejected and their application fee will not be returned.
  3. Visas for religious work shall in principle be single entry.
