What documents do I need to prepare when applying for a resident visa?]]>https://www.boca.gov.tw/cp-181-475-f087d-2.htmlExchange students, who participate an academic exchange program and schedule to study in Taiwan for more than six months, must prepare the following documents to apply for a resident visa (code: FS) at ROC overseas missions.

  1.  A passport still valid for more than six months with empty pages. And copies of basic-data page of passport are also required.
  2. A properly completed visa application form. You need to first access the website https://visawebapp.boca.gov.tw to fill out application form online and print it out with the bar code.
    • You must sign the form to confirm that the information you have provided is true.
  3. Two 2"x2" photographs
    • *Photographs must be taken within the last six months, in color and with a white-color background.
  4. An admission letter from the school.
    1. Exchange students at universities or colleges must submit a letter of approval for the exchange program issued by the university or college concerned in Taiwan.
    2. Exchange students at senior high schools must submit a letter of approval issued by the Ministry of Education or education departments of city/county governments.
  5. A health certificate issued within the past three months either by one of the accredited local hospitals (list attached) or by a licensed foreign hospital or clinic. Foreign documents must be authenticated by an ROC mission abroad. If the documents are in a language other than English, they must be submitted together with a Chinese or English translation and authenticated by an ROC mission abroad.

ROC overseas missions, the Bureau of Consular Affairs or the Central Taiwan Office, Southern Taiwan Office, Eastern Taiwan Office or Southwestern Taiwan Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs may arrange an interview with the applicant or request other supplementary documents.

The exchange students in Taiwan who hold a visitor visa with the mark FS issued by an ROC overseas mission may apply to the National Immigration Agency for residence for the same purpose in Taiwan.

  • Diploma of your highest level of education and related academic records. These must be authenticated by ROC overseas missions. 
  • Documents showing sufficient financial resources to pay for education in Taiwan. These must be authenticated by an ROC overseas mission.
  • Power of Attorney by parents or any other legal representative to the guardian in Taiwan, which must be authenticated by an ROC overseas mission.
  • A document signed by a person residing in Taiwan in which he or she agrees to be your legal guardian. This document must be notarized by a court or notary public in Taiwan.
  • A transcript of complete family household registration of the legal guardian in Taiwan issued within the past three months.
  • Document showing that the legal guardian in Taiwan does not have a criminal record.
  • The latest tax return of the legal guardian in Taiwan, issued by the Revenue Service, indicating a total annual income of more than NT$900,000. A guardian can only guard one international student. 
  • A health certificate issued within the past three months either by one of the accredited local hospitals (list attached) or by a licensed foreign hospital or clinic. 

    • *Foreign documents must be authenticated by an ROC mission abroad. If the documents are in a language other than English, they must be submitted together with a Chinese or English translation and authenticated by an ROC mission abroad.

    Details regarding nationalities eligible for these visas, qualified schools, and legal guardians in Taiwan are in accordance with the Regulations Regarding International Students Undertaking Studies in Taiwan promulgated by the Ministry of Education.       • You must sign the form to confirm that the information you have provided is true.

    4. The approval letter issued by the Overseas Community Affairs Council.
    5. The official letter of assignment or recommendation to a school issued by the Ministry of Education or a relevant city or county government.
    6. The enrollment certificate issued by the school (e.g. student I.D. with registration stamp on it).
    7. A document signed by a person residing in Taiwan in which he or she agrees to be your legal guardian. This document must be notarized by a court or notary public in Taiwan.
    8. A transcript of complete family household registration of the legal guardian in Taiwan issued within the past three months.
    9. Diploma of your highest level of education and related academic records. These must be authenticated by an ROC overseas mission. 
    10. A health certificate issued within the past three months either by one of the recommended local hospitals (list attached) or by a licensed foreign hospital or clinic.

    *Foreign documents must be authenticated by an ROC mission abroad. If the documents are in a language other than English, they must be submitted together with a Chinese or English translation and authenticated by an ROC mission abroad.

    5. Other supporting documents depending on your purpose. If you reside outside of Taiwan, you must apply at an ROC overseas mission.
  • White-collar professionals who enter Taiwan via visa exemption and have obtained a work permit for fulfilling contract purpose issued before or within 30 days of their entry (Brunei, Philippines and Thailand are not included) may apply for a work visa. 
    *Applications shall be submitted within 8 working days before their permitted duration of stay expire. 
    *For others who obtains work permits (exclude fulfilling contract purpose) granted for a period over 6 months, shall apply for their residency directly to the National Immigration Agency according to the “Act for the Recruitment and Employment of Foreign Professionals.”

    • This regulation does not apply to blue-collar workers.

How can one apply for this change?]]>https://www.boca.gov.tw/cp-181-483-65c98-2.htmlThe applicant must submit a written statement explaining the purpose of the extension to BOCA or MOFA's  branch offices, and should also submit relevant documents concerning the emergency. The applicant must also prepare the required documents set out in Q1. (Note: if the application is denied, the application fee is non-refundable). However, this does not apply to:

    1. Visitors who have entered Taiwan on visa-exempt entries or on landing visas;
    2. Visitors who have overstayed their visas; and
    3. Visitors who have already changed the status of their visas.

    Holders of  visas which are valid for 60 days and which do not bear “No extension will be granted” can directly apply for an extension of their visa at  local service centers of the National Immigration Agency  with the relevant documents.
