French Parliamentary Delegation to Visit Taiwan

At the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Hon. Roland Blum, Member of the French National Assembly and the First Deputy Mayor of Marseille, together with Hon. Renaud Muselier, Vice-Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the French National Assembly, will visit Taiwan from September 14 to 17, 2010.

During their stay, welcoming banquets will be hosted in their honor by Dr. Lyushun Shen, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Mr. Lee Yung-te, Deputy Mayor of Kaohsiung City. Hon. Blum and Hon. Muselier will also be received by Mr. Kao Charng, Deputy Minister of the Mainland Affairs Council of the Executive Yuan, Ms. Liao Wan-ju, Convener of the Foreign and National Defense Committee of the Legislative Yuan, as well as Ms. Chen Chu, Mayor of Kaohsiung City. In addition, the delegates will visit the Government Information Office, the Port of Kaohsiung, Kaohsiung National Stadium (The World Games Main Stadium), the National Palace Museum, Taipei 101, National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, among other cultural and economic establishments.

Hon. Blum and Vice-Chairman Muselier, both outstanding political figures with vast experience, belong to the French ruling coalition of the Union for a Popular Movement (Union pour un Movement Populaire, UMP). This trip marks the second visit to Taiwan for Hon. Blum and the first for Vice-Chairman Muselier. The delegates have expressed their strong interest in understanding the current situation across the Taiwan Strait, the latest political and economic developments in Taiwan, as well as policies of the government.(E)
