Members of the European Parliament to Visit Taiwan

At the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Hon. Marek Siwiec and Hon. Tanja Fajon, Members of the European Parliament(EP), together with other two members, compose a four-member delegation to visit Taiwan from November 1 to 7, 2010. As a Member of the EP’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, Mr. Siwiec previously served as the Secretary General of the National Security Council, Chief of the National Security Office of Poland, as well as Vice President of the European Parliament. Ms. Fajon, is currently the Shadow Rapporteur in the European Parliament for Taiwan’s Schengen visa waiver proposal. Mr. Siwiec and Ms. Fajon both are longstanding friends of Taiwan. 

President of the Legislative Yuan Wang Jin-pyng and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Lyushun Shen will host respectively welcoming banquets in honor of the delegates. The delegates will call at the Legislative Yuan, National Security Council, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mainland Affairs Council, Ministry of National Defense, National Security Bureau, National Immigration Agency Border Affairs Corps, among other institutions. They will also visit Taipei 101, the National Palace Museum, Taroko National Park, Kenting National Park and other cultural and economic establishments. 

This trip marks Parliamentarian Siwiec’s third visit to Taiwan and the first for Ms. Fajon and the rest of the delegation. This visit aims at enhancing delegates’ better understanding of Taiwan’s most recent political and economic developments.(E)
