Former Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia Ivan Janez Jansa and Mrs. Jansa Visit Taiwan

At the invitation of the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Hon. Janez Jansa, Former Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, and Mrs. Jansa are scheduled to visit Taiwan on February 14 to 19, 2011. They will be accompanied by Parliamentarian Mihael Brejc, President of the Slovenia-Taiwan Friendship Association, and Mrs. Brejc. 

This delegation will have an audience with President Ma Ying-jeou, call on Minister of Foreign Affairs Timothy C.T. Yang, and attend a luncheon hosted in their honor by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Lyushun Shen. The delegation members also will call at the Council for Economic Planning and Development, Mainland Affairs Council, Ministry of National Defense, Taiwan Democracy Foundation, Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology, Hsinchu Science Park and Taipei Medical University’s Shuang-Ho Hospital. They will also tour the 2010 Taipei International Flora Exposition, Longshan Temple, Taipei 101 and Sun Moon Lake, among other cultural and economic sites of interest.

After his first visit to the Republic of China (Taiwan) in 1997, Hon. Janez Jansa, who was then a parliamentarian of Slovenia, helped found the Slovenia-Taiwan Friendship Association so as to better promote the bilateral relations between the two countries. Since his inauguration as Prime Minister in 2004, Hon. Janez Jansa has remained a staunch supporter of Taiwan. 

This visit aims to enhance Slovenia-Taiwan relations and deepen the delegation’s understanding of the development of Taiwan’s democracy, economy and relations with mainland China.(E)
