At the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan), United Kingdom’s Conservative House of Commons member Andrew Rosindell, leading a group of eight Conservative Party youths, visits Taiwan from December 16 to December 22, 2011.

The 9-member delegation will call at the Mainland Affairs Council, the Forestry Bureau of the Council of Agriculture, the Bureau of Foreign Trade, the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy, and the College of International Affairs of the National Chengchi University. They will also visit many sites of Taiwan’s cultural and economic interest including the National Palace Museum, Taipei 101 and Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. During their visit, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Kuoyu Tung will host a welcome luncheon for them.

The leader of the delegation, Andrew Rosindell, has previously visited Taiwan on two occasions, and has always earnestly worked to promote closer ties between the U.K. and Taiwan. The group he leads is mainly composed of the younger leaders from the Conservative Party. This trip aims to give the delegation a better understanding of the cross-strait relations, the political, economic, and social landscape in Taiwan, as well as to promote the mutual exchanges between the U.K. and the Republic of China.(E)
